Saint Kilian Parish School students, boys and girls registered at our school in grades 2 - 8 may participate in the school basketball program. 2nd and 3rd graders are developmental in nature and will work on skills and developing. The 4th grade teams will continue to work on skills and develop and may play a set of games versus other schools in the diocese. Games are scheduled to be picked during the diocese meeting in late fall based upon other schools teams and ability to play. Junior Varsity teams (5th and 6th grade) will play against other JV teams in the Diocese of Pittsburgh basketball school league. In addition, if two teams are fielded for play, one team will enter into the diocese league while the other will enter into a similar basketball league.
Our Varsity team (7th and 8th grades) will play games very similar to the JV teams in their section in the diocese plus have the ability to play in a similar basketball league if we field more than one team.
Saint Kilian will enter teams into the competitive Section 1A North Diocese league for competition and into a qualified league with other schools for our additional teams.
The games are set by the diocese coordinators (and league coordinators) and a minimum amount of games must be played to qualify for diocese events and championships. The section will be dictated by the diocese based on enrollment of children. Our Celtics will practice during the week - likely once or twice weekly for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders and twice weekly for the JV and Varsity teams. Practice days may not be at our home gym but at an alternate site. Game days for our home court will be determined at a later date due to scheduling with the diocese. Travel to all games, away and at home are the responsibility of the family.
The basketball season typically runs from October 1 to Mid-March.
